Pipeline operators and Refinery operators are getting increasing pressure from regulatory authorities and environmentalists to guarantee the integrity of their asset, while facing financial pressure to minimize their maintenance cost. This presentation presents a new approach to external corrosion and mechanical damage direct assessments using a 3D laser scanner with dedicated software. The improvements over other traditional non-destructive-testing (NDT) techniques such as manual pit gauge will be discussed. We will illustrate how the latest 3D optical innovations support the need for improved data quality, inspection speed and repeatability for this application. The scanner can acquire the damaged surface with constant accuracy in a vibrating field environment by replacing typical mechanical attachments with a contactless dynamic referencing system. Compliance with existing code is of essence and therefore serves as the starting point for the analysis tool. Demonstration of the system capacities applied to this specific application will be discussed.Find out more »
Technical Seminar on “Phased Array Inspection of HTHA (High Temperature Hydrogen Attack) – Total Focusing Method (TFM) and Full Matrix Capture (FMC)” and Other Special Applications
High temperature hydrogen attack (HTHA), also called hot hydrogen attack, is a problem which concerns steels operating at elevated temperatures (typically above 400°C) in hydrogen environments, in refinery, petrochemical and other chemical facilities and, possibly, high pressure steam boilers.
HTHA damage is detected using AUBT method (Advanced Ultrasonic Backscattering Technique) that evaluates the frequency and velocity dependence to a non-damaged area.
This talk will discuss in detail the advancements in equipment which helps detecting HTHA and other applications which can be covered using TFM/FMC techniques.Find out more »
